How about this selection for "worst western": Wild Wild West (the movie, not the TV show)

WWW starred Kevin Kline, as did Silverado. I may have to rethink this.

I dunno. There are some seriously bad westerns out there. Perhaps the category should be "Most Disappointing Western". WWW would definitely fit that category as would Mel Gibson's turn as 'son of Maverick' w/Jodie Foster????

In fact, how about a western starring Kline and Foster!!

Outlaw Josey Wales
Unforgiven
Man who shot Liberty Valance
Pat Garret and Billy the Kid
The Wild Bunch
Cat Ballou
Blazing Saddles

For kid-friendly westerns I'd have to say Old Yeller.

"A rough and ready feller,
although his coat was yeller,
his bold Texas heart was true blue."

Yessiree!

It's a great film if you want to scar your kids, send them into possible clinical depression, and make them cry ;)

Rio Bravo
Red River
and (how have people forgotten this one?) MCLINTOCK!!
Basically, anything with the Duke is good. :) (Sorry Bawb!)

What? No mention of any movie with (say it in hushed awe), Randolph Scott?

Sigh . . .

You youngsters have been deprived of the very best "westerns," such as:

The Lone Ranger upholding law and order, behind a black mask, riding his fine steed "Silver", with his Indian side-kick, "Tonto."

And Roy Rogers singing the glories of western sunsets upon his Palamino. named "Trigger!"

When was the last time you heard a good and proper rendition of the good ol' cowboy songs, like "Home, Home On The Range" sung by a REAL Hollywood cowboy?

. . . :sing:

Mrs. Ronda,

I was actually named after Randolph Scott. But my mom shortened it to Randy. I grew up drinking from two cups, one red and one blue in print on white, that had a likeness of the hero cowboy on them.

But I don't know if I have ever seen a Randolph Scott movie. Isn't that a shame?

'Everybody knows when you go to the show
You can't take the kids along.
You've gotta read the paper and know the code of G, PG, and R and X,
And you gotta know what the movies is about before you even go.
Tex Ritter's gone and Disney's dead,
And the screen is filled with sex.

What ever happened to Randolph Scott riding the trail alone?
What ever happened to Gene and Tex and Roy and Rex, the Durango Kid
Oh, what ever happened to Randolph Scott his horse as plain as can be?
What ever happened to Randolph Scott has happened to the best of me (industry).'

If you look you can find Randolph Scott DVD's at WalMart occasionally. You can also find Gene and Tex and Roy and Rex, the Durango Kid.

I'm with you on this one.

BTW, I mentioned McClintock earlier. I think it has been ignored because of some folks disagree with his last interaction with Katie :)
