For all of the papists out there who got Christ-mass gifts, what new books did oyu get? I got the following:

Samuel Adams: Father of the American Revolution by Puhl.
The Worldly Philosophers, by Robert Heilbroner

The Life and Lettes of Robert Lewis Dabney by TC Johnson

The Quest for Cosmic Justice, by Thomas Sowell

Democracy in America by Alexis de Tocqueville

And I got an Amazon gift card for $25.

I got:

Theological Dictionary of the New Testament (series) and The Lord's Day by someone, i forgot.

Heh, we don't do gifts. But we did get a few anyway by buying them. Baxter's A Christian Directory (thanks Ruben), Davidson's Analytical Lexicon of Hebrew and Chaldean, and the much coveted 2006 Pension Protection Act with legal analysis and annotations (actually, it came without charge because of a delay in some other legal books I ordered).

Also, my pastor gave me an old book on telescope design he found at some used bookstore and a 1935 copy of Kells's Elementary Differential Equations, so we're set for a month or two.

My wife gave me the full Still Waters Revival collection of Reformation and Puritan books on a gazillion CDs in PDF format, many many hundreds of unabridged classics.

For example: Ames, Barrow, Beza, Bucer, Bullinger, Burgess, Burroughs, Cartwright, Caryl, Cotton, Fairbairn, Flavel, Fuller, Gill, Gillespie, Knox, Lightfoot, Manton, Marshall, Owen, Perkins, Poole, Rutherford, Shedd, Sibbes, Stelle, Symington,Turretin, Twisse, Ursinus, Westminster Assembly of Divines, Wylie, and Zwingli.

Well, I had asked for the 1599 Geneva Bible (modern spelling). Somehow, whoever placed the order (my sister, I think) did not follow my weblinks and ordering instructions so instead I now have a 20 lb 1560 Geneva Bible (facsimile from Hendrickson). I like the fact that it retains the notes and woodcuts but it is the one that is very difficult to read. But I WILL read it. Until I go blind I WILL read it.:D
And I will also become much stronger by lifting it.

I got:

Chosen for Life by Sam Storms (autographed copy from my brother)

A Dictionary of Latin Words and Phrases, Oxford University Press (from my wonderful wife)

And, Institutes of the Christian Religion by John Calvin (single volume, hard cover, Beveridge translation, pre-ordered by my wonder wife)

John Calvin's Commentaries (22 Volumes) From my Mother

Matthew Henry's Commentaries (6 Volumes) from my Wife

Expository Thoughts on the Four Gospels by Ryle (Two Volumes out of Three of John) from my Parent In Laws

Expository Thoughts on the Four Gospels by Ryle (One Volume of Matthew and Mark) by Sister In Law and Her Hubby

Septuagint with Apocrypha Interlinear Greek/English From a Aunt

:book2:

How Long, O Lord? Reflections on Suffering and Evil by D.A. Carson

Body, Soul & Life Everlasting: Biblical Anthropology and the Monism-Dualism Debate by John W. Cooper

Chosen Soldier by Dick Couch (Sounds like it's about a Calvinist warrior, but the author actually follows a training class through U.S. Army Special Forces Assessment and Selection.)

The Sword and the Olive by Martin Van Creveld (It's a critical history of the Israeli Defense Force.)

Tactics of the Crescent Moon by H. John Poole (It's an analysis of militant Muslim training and tactics, within a historical context while focusing largely on the last one hundred years.)

Medical Ethics by John Frame (Gotten for me by my always-ethical, always beautiful bride, since I will shortly be embarking for training as a "Health Care Specialist" (read: "flight medic") in the NY Army National Guard and, Lord willing, a possible career in medicine.)

I also received Whatever Happened to the Human Race? on DVD with Francis Schaeffer and former Surgeon General C. Everett Coop.

I don't know that I will be able to read them all :(, since I'm leaving for basic training and advanced training in about 10 days. But I'm gonna give it the ol' college try! :D

Now that is a fantastic read! If you know anyother good books on the relationship of praexology to economics PM me please!
