As people are aware Calvin advocated (at least sometimes) that magistrates should follow the law of nations. What exactly is the law of nations? What is the content? Did the term *law of nations* change from Calvin's day to today?

For example, if some argue today that we should follow the law of nations in regard to the civil realm, do they mean the law of nations at Calvin's day (which presumably burned Servetus) or the Law of nations today (which might be seen in the EU and UN)?

I am not trying to sneak a theonomic low-blow at other ethical systems. I am actually reading some natural law theories with interest and I am trying to avoid straw men.
