Question 25. Since there is but one only divine essence, (a) why speakest thou of Father, Son, and Holy Ghost?

Answer: Because God has so revealed himself in his word, (b) that these three distinct persons are the one only true and eternal God.

Under (b) is listed 2 Cor. 13:13: "All the saints salute you." (KJV). Can someone explain to me why this passage is a proof text for the doctrine of the Trinity?

Interesting. I believe it should be 2 Cor 13:14...

In looking at Bibleworks, some versions merge v.13 with v.12 thus resulting in v. 14 being listed as v.13....

Well, just goes to show that context is indeed king. I should have read more of the chapter to understand that the listing of 2 Cor. 13:13 is most likely a typo. My source was The Heidelberg Catechism

Thanks, fellows!

Other editions of the Catechism have the proper proof-text: 2 Corinthians 13:14. This text wasn't listed in the original Catechism, and even if it had been, it would have only been the chapter and not the verse.
