May I kindly ask brothers and sisters in Christ if there is any excellent book written by Puritans or 18th century writers about the life of Jesus Christ for devotional and application purposes?
J.C. Ryle's Expository Thoughts on the Gospels work through each of the Gospels and contain much excellent material. In terms of Lives of Jesus, I think Alfred Edersheim The Life and Times of Jesus the Messiah is outstanding; but be aware that you will get an enormous amount of information along with the warm devotional reflection.
