I just want to know your thoughts about the difference between the two. What it's importance and implications. Thank you for your answers.

Hi,

I have written something about it here: https://bredenhof.ca/2010/09/04/denominations/

"Federation" is a word that's used to refer to a voluntary association of local churches bound together by a common agreement (known as a Church Order). In my background, we describe the Canadian Reformed Churches and the Free Reformed Churches of Australia as federations. The word 'denomination' isn't used much, except perhaps with people who might only know the word 'denomination.'

To me, when I think of a denomination, I think of a church group with a bureaucracy, including a head office of some kind. Like the Christian Reformed Church in North America. Perhaps it's the singular "Church" as opposed to the federational language of "churches" in the name.
