Why we are commanded to do what we can not do!

 I have seen this quote cited by John Calvin (Institutes) and A.W. Pink (The Sovereignty of God). I believe it is from his Treatise on Grace and Free Will:

The Pelagians think that they know something great when they assert that "God would not command what He knew could not be done by man." Who can be ignorant of this? But God commands some things which we cannot do, in order that we may know what we ought to ask of Him.

Augustine - A Treatise on Grace and Free Will

Augustine, Confessions, X, xxix, 40:

Give what Thou dost command, and command what Thou wilt.
