The Allman Brothers Band - one of the greatest blues-based bands ever.
It's instructive to compare them with the Grateful Dead. The Dead were into noodling, wandering, drifting-off-into-something-else jams that were more or less pointless after awhile. But the Allman Brothers band was (is) a tightly disciplined unit They may have jammed on songs for 30 minutes or more, but you always knew just where they were in the course of the song during the solos. And the solos always made sense, no meandering away from the tune.
One of the great, great bands in rock history.
