Almost forget. Well I did forget until reminded

Anton Bruckner

Puritan Board Professor
Today December 16th was or is Beethoven's birthday.

Almost everyone knows his 5th and 9th symphonies, and his bagatelle Fur Elise.

Not to brag, but God has blessed me with all his string quartets, violin sonatas and piano sonatas.

Which recording of the string quartets do you have? I have been sampling some different ones.

I would recommend it, because of it is comprehensive. They put the requisite effort into all 16 quartets, so that whenever you listen you are in for a treat, eventhough a particular quartet is not your favorite. They also don't read too much into Beethoven to make him an ultra romantic, like many performers tend to do. They play it in such a manner that you see Beethoven as the classicist he is, who was pushing the boundaries. Because of this, I enjoy it and don't feel offended.

Keon,

That sounds good. I don't like people to Berliotize Beethoven. Getting a complete recording of his string quartets is definitely something I want to do --but I want to make sure I get the right one. Thanks for your input.
