Reformed Covenanter

Cancelled Commissioner
I am aware of Thomas Smyth's pamphlet on the Disruption (see here) and of Charles Hodge's review article on the same subject in the Princeton Review. I also plan to undertake a detailed survey of the relevant periodicals for the period (thanks to the PCA Historical Center for listing them). Still, I was wondering if you knew of any other books or pamphlets by American Presbyterians that discuss the Disruption of the Church of Scotland?

Have you looked through any of The Evangelical Repository? It was initially an Associate Reformed journal, I think, and later under the auspices of the United Presbyterian Church of North America.

Other American journals to check:
The Banner of the Covenant
The Presbyterian Armory, 1846-47, pp. 239 and 266 [two short entries; probably not much to bother with].

I can check The Charleston Observer, a Presbyterian newspaper, to see if there was coverage in 1843. Will next week be okay?

Lastly, are you checking indexes for prominent names, like Chalmers?

I have found quite a few news articles if you are interested.

Ive tried your email and it doesn’t want to send for some reason. So, I’ll post them here if it will let me. Here is the first one from The Ruthland County Herald in July 6 1843.

This one is taken from the Democratic Standard August 1 1843 (this piece was actually a reprint of the NY Tribune).
