A recent M.Th. thesis on George Smeaton (1814-1889) and his Novum Organum: Biblical Theology and Reformed Orthodoxy is now available to download. I had dinner with the author in Edinburgh one evening a few years ago at which we discussed the potential project. He is a really good guy, and it may interest you to know that Sinclair Ferguson supervised the thesis.

Thank you for posting this, Daniel. I have just finished the thesis and found its depiction of Smeaton's context informative. Occasionally one can hear an acknowledgement that there was a Reformed approach to Biblical theology prior to Vos, and this thesis goes some way towards confirming that this was more than a fluke or an occasional gesture.

I was surprised to find so many formatting errors and evidence that it was not carefully reviewed prior to publication. Some sentences were grammatically incomplete, articles were missing, and in general the final product was less polished than I would have expected.
