BDAG vs BGAD

For those familiar with the academic world and/or these two specific books; how big are the differences between the newest edition of BDAG and its previous iteration BAGD (I realize I misspelled that in the title!)? Apparently it is quite surprising I have gotten this far in my academic and pastoral career without it, and I'm looking to get one of the two. I can find used copies of the older edition online for under $20, but BDAG runs around $100 or just under for even heavily used copies and I just don't have the money to drop on it easily. Would grabbing the older edition serve me just fine, or are the differences so big that BAGD is more or less obsolete academically?

I picked up BDAG at the encouragement of my Greek Exegesis professor. He made no mention of "BGAD" despite the cost of BDAG and still encouraged us to find a way to buy it if at all possible (maybe that's a testament to the helpfulness of BDAG over and against BGAD but maybe not). I'll say in my own personal use of BDAG, I've found it to be nearly invaluable. I purchased mine via Logos and was able to make payments on it monthly to assist with the cost.

Sorry I realize I mixed up my acronyms-- it is "BAGD", if that makes any difference.

Dr. Cole is great! I have enjoyed interacting with him at Hybrid week and via email. I suppose I probably could have emailed this question to him.

By the way, you will probably need to buy a copy for school. But there are plenty of online resources. Here are ones I use:

I am once again asking students today to at least try using Logos for Greek/Hebrew Lexicon stuff. It saves so much time and body aches from arching over to find small entries for this or that word.
