Puritan Board Freshman
I'm not sure where to post this, so I figured this would be the safest bet.

I am going to be traveling to Philadelphia in March for an interview with a teaching fellowship and I'll be there on Sunday the 9th and I would like to visit a local church. I have never been to Philadelphia and I'll be staying at the hotel attached to the airport. Does anyone know of any churches in that area? I won't have a car or anything so if it's a drive then it might not be feasible. I'm a member of a PCA church, but due to the obvious constraints I won't be too picky about the denominational affiliation.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated!

The transit authority there has a train that runs from each airport terminal to downtown. Looks like 10th Presbyterian is about a mile from the Reading Terminal Market, which I recall as being adjacent to one of the train stations, and the subway doesn't look like it would help. I do NOT know if that is safely walkable in Philadelphia, and I can't imagine that a 1 mile stroll would be pleasant in early March. But don't entirely rule out public transit.

If you can't find a better option, and you have free internet at the hotel, we offer live streaming of a couple of services on Sunday mornings.

Google listed 3 PCA churches in Philadelphia

1. Tenth Presbyterian Church (Tenth Presbyterian Church) (Downtown Philadelphia)
2. Cresheim Valley Church (www.cvcpca.org) (NW Philadelphia)
3. Third Reformed Presbyterian (Third Reformed Presbyterian Church / Home) (NE Philadelphia)

There are also a few OPC churches as well. I'm not a philly native, so I can't recommend but it might depend on what part of philly you are staying in.

Three? At my last count, I am pretty sure there are twenty. The airport is not actually in Philadelphia though so I am not sure of many churches in Philadelphia will not be accessible.

That is not a bad walk at all. You would go through the "Gayborhood" at one point, cross the Avenue of the Arts and cross Thomas Jefferson University's Campus; all places considered nice sections of the city.

I, with the wife and kids, used the the train (SEPTA) to get to Tenth Presbyterian from the airport area last summer. It was pretty easy. Although there seemed to be public transit connections that could get one closer, we simply walked from Suburban Station to the church. The neighborhood felt safe and it was fun to experience downtown Philly. Attending a service at Tenth also has a historic-Philly-experience vibe to it, a rare bonus for a place where you'll get gospel preaching. So unless the weather makes the prospect of a short city walk feel too daunting, I say that putting on a warm coat and heading for Tenth is a viable option. Study the train maps and have directions/map to the church, though.

10th with its deaconesses is a little liberal for my tastes if I was considering membership, but it would probably be my first choice for a visit on a one-off basis.
