Just returned from dinner with R. Scott Clark. Great time, great conversation. Mike Horton was supposed to join us but he's got 4 young'uns so I'll have to wait to see him until this Summer hopefully.

Thanks Scott for a great dinner, great conversation, and great fellowship.

He actually paid for my meal. I kind of felt guilty because those Seminary profs don't make much. If I had know he was going to do that, though, I might have had the lobster.

I am again very thankful for this board as a venue to meet some very fine Reformed folk from all over the world that I might otherwise have never had the opportunity to.

Hope to see you again this Summer, Dr. Clark!

I paid him a lot of money between the years of 1999-2002 and all I got was a lousy piece of paper with his signature on it!

I am happy for you Rich but disappointed for me. When I saw the thread title I thought you were raffling off tickets to have dinner with Dr. Scott. I was gonna buy 4 or 5 tickets. Now without a 'chance' to have dinner with the man I'm going to have to go back to relying on 'providence' to arrange it. Shucks!

Seriously, I'm sure you were mutually blessed. Two of my favorite people over good food and conversation.

Supposedly, they're a Christian run business. I hear they're absolutely excellent too. I want to eat there someday.

[THREAD DRIFT ALERT!]
Yes, In-N-Out is a California tradition. The first thing my four kids living in the midwest do when they get off the plane is ask to be taken to In-N-Out. The menu is simple: hamburger, cheeseburger, double-cheesburger, fries, beverages, cooked the way you want it. My wife probably catches lunch at In-N-Out a couple times each week. Our at-home daughter ALWAYS wants to have In-N-Out. If any of you get out to California, ask for your burger "animal style." It is a tradition of the locals.

[BACK ON TOPIC]
Unfair! How comes the jarhead gets to eat with Dr. Clark (and almost Mike Horton)? Who died and made Semper Fideles the most privileged Calvinist on this board? I'm with Bawb. The title of the thread sounded like an offer for us poor unworthy ones, not a display of tawdry braggadocio.

Seriously . . . how cool! Good for you, Rich. What a blessed way to spend some of your time here in the States.

ps. The honor and pleasure were all mine. I got to eat dinner with an officer in the United States Marine Corps -- and a dear brother.

Hu-wah!

Rich to Scott: What's that son?! You're not going to finish your lobster? Why I ought to bust you down to visiting faculty. Now get your lazy, corn huskin mouth in gear and EAT THAT SEAFOOD! And don't let me hear 'I can't'! Can't means won't, can't means I don't wanna because I am just a 'big baby' professor who can't handle a big meal. Let me tell you something - I will eat you for breakfast, scholar boy!

Scott: Sir, yes sir!

Rich: I can't hear you! Sound off like you got a Ph.D!

The conversation was more like this:

Rich: I think the basic problem with Kline was...
Scott: Hold on let me get a pen and paper.

No, seriously. I don't feel right even joking about that. I really do love picking the man's brain. He's spent a lot more time delving into some issues and I even got to ask some clarifying questions I had wondered about.

By the way, Scott looks younger in person that one of his pics. I suppose we both look old to twenty-somethings. I'm almost 40 and Scott is only 7 years older.

Interestingly enough I also hesitated to put that joke out there but I knew Dr. Clark could take it. :)

I also have much respect for him; he was very much responsible for my growth in theological knowledge and application in and after my seminary days.

I would have asked him if he thought Obama or McCain had the better Federal Vision. (okay..I admit that was lame...)

On another note, I'm wondering if Dr. Clark used the face-to-face encounter to request honorary doctoral status on the PB...since at this point his erudition has only earned him Junior status??

For what it's worth, Rich didn't have dinner with anyone cool, he had dinner with me!

Hey Scott,

I'll be out in So. Cal the last week of July to preach in LaMirada and SCARBC, when we come to visit JIM, can I get the same deal? It would be good to see you again. Was it our conversation on Bodley's books when we last spoke in Oxoniensis?

Mike :-)

You must have been there Daniel. I thought I saw you in the corner taping up a hockey stick!

I think it's a covenant of works.

It would be good to see you. I'm probably not buying but I only live about a 100 yards from Jim so, I'm not hard to find.
