Does anyone on here sport fish?

Fishing is one of my favorite hobbies. Anyone else? If so, what is your favorite species to target?

I like trout, but don't get to fish them as much as I did when we lived out west. Salmon runs are nice here, though the last two years haven't been very good. And we have a good population of pan fish and bass. I've not caught more than about an 18 inch pike, but understand they can be quite a ride. I hope to find out soon.

If I could afford it, I'd take some fly-fishing lessons. I can cast a little, but often it's more frustrating than it's worth because I can't seem to maintain a good form.

I prefer catching on artificial lures. They seem to hit harder. But I'm not above tossing a worm out either. Sometimes it's all that works, and I'd rather come home with a few than get skunked with lures. We caught a couple the other day, smallies and rock bass, and the worm seemed the most successful.

I have 3 main rigs with Shimano reels, ultralight, med and med-heavy. With extra spools this gives me line weighted from 4 to about 12 pounds or so. I can't remember what I have on the 4000 right now.

Because of our location, options abound. We have Lake Michigan, with the Bays de Noc right in front of us. The Escanaba river is nearby, as well as assorted rivers and streams. And several are dammed up so we have some reservoirs to choose from as well. And there are some swampy areas that have pools that I hear can be fun to fish, though I've never tried it.

One of the big deals here is walleye. I've not had much success fishing them. Another big deal here is ice fishing. I've done it... maybe for the last time. :) I find that it's simply not worth it. Rarely do I hear of a good fishing day for ice fishers.

Sweet man. I'm sure you have the better salmon runs up there! I do all types of fishing but I love fishing the run. I picked up a centerpin last year and love that thing. I usually fish Milwaukee down through Kenosha for browns, steelies, and kings...
