Ezra sermon series

Interested to hear from anyone who has preached through the book of Ezra: What counsel or warnings do you have? What commentaries did you find helpful? How did you tie the book's content to contemporary issues? Thanks

Taught through Ezra and Nehemiah. Use Kidner, Rata, Derek Thomas, Gary Smith, Petter/Petter, Dale Ralph Davis (out in March of 2025), Williamson, Fensham, Harrington, De Jong, McConville, and Lorein. Also occasionally useful are Boice and Becking (if you have the funds!). The usual move is to apply the inter-marriage issues in a spiritual way vis-a-vis believers and unbelievers. Providence is always preachable, as is the idea that the genealogies prove God's interest in the little people. It can be difficult to preach Christ from Ezra-Nehemiah. Need creativity.
