Congratulations Blake and my God bless you as a husband in all ways possible and may he bless your marriage to your bride so that your life together will be one of true happiness. I pray in Jesus name to bless you both as you exchange your marriage vows next Friday evening April 15th.
Blake I want to share with you some advice I gave my own sons the night before they were married I included these remarks to them publicly before the wedding party at the wedding rehearsal dinner.
I said the following to each of my sons the night before the wedding; as part of my little welcome speech to all at the wedding rehearsal. I said…….
I want to close with a few words of advice. Advice from your dad who has made his share of mistakes. All parents wish and want for their children things to be a little bit better than they themselves had it. The following are words of advice shared by some famous and some not so famous people.
“Remember a successful marriage is an edifice that must be rebuilt every day.”
“Marriage -- as its veterans know well -- is the continuous process of getting used to things you hadn't expected.”
Remember always “It is not how much we do, but how much love we put in the doing. It is not how much we give, but how much love we put in the giving.”
I also included the following words of advice which were written by a wonderful lady who my sons called Nanny Davis, my mom, on the occasion of her and Poppy Davis ’ 50th Wedding Anniversary, January 12th 1991. I said to them Nanny wrote:
“How can a marriage last so long, as long
As fifty years?
Never hold a grudge too long; talk out
Your fights and tears.
Remember that we all have faults and
he does have a few
Turn around-look at yourself; you’ll
find you have them too!
Always have a sense of humor; be
Patient and be fair
Forgive each other all the time; for each
other “just be there”,
She must always be your sweetheart; she
will always be your friend.
He must always be your true love and
love you till the end.
Always keep your love alive and just
say “I love you”
That love will always be returned – you
know, I love you too”

Finally Ogden Nash said this about marriage:
“To keep your marriage brimming, with love in the loving cup, whenever you’re wrong, admit it; whenever you’re right, shut up.”!!!
So I will “shut up” now and just close with AN OLD IRISH WEDDING BLESSING ……..which says …….
MAY GOD BE WITH YOU AND BLESS YOU
MAY YOU SEE YOUR CHILDREN'S CHILDREN
MAY YOU BE POOR IN MISFORTUNE, RICH IN BLESSINGS
MAY YOU KNOW NOTHING BUT HAPPINESS
FROM THIS DAY FORWARD
Blake I give you my wishes for a truly happy marriage and again I pray in Jesus’ name to bless both you and your new wife as you venture into a new life together!
