I Need A Quick Answer, Please

Just a quick question: I am jumping into Biblical Theology, and I am starting with Vos. I hear many people say get Vos' Biblical Theology. When I search it online, only Vos' Biblical Theology: Old and New Testaments, comes up. I just want to make sure I am purchasing the right book. So, Biblical Theology: Old and New Testaments is what everyone means when they say Vos' Biblical Theology, right? Thank you very much!

Yes. That's the one. However, I'm not convinced that's the place to start. I would recommend two books by Graeme Goldsworthy as the place to start a study of Biblical Theology: According to Plan (1991) and Christ-Centered Biblical Theology (2012). Then read Vos.

Actually, Mr. Vos is outstanding; yes the title states both the Old and New testaments. What sets Mr. Vos apart is that he never loses his wonder of God; and he writes with a deep pastoral concern that believers know and glorify God. (You get a great sense of this in the sermons he preached at Princeton.) He also manages to state very succinctly points that later writers took pages and pages to describe. If you don't know the original languages (and I didn't when I started reading Biblical Theology) keep a copy of the KJV at hand and perhaps a Greek interlinear. Mr. Vos would base an entire point on a particular word and I was confused because it didn't show up in my translations. The KJV solved that, at least partially.

Vos's Biblical Theology is an incredible read. His comments on the Covenant of Works as an embodiment of the sabbatical principle (around page 140) is worth the price of admission. Make sure you buy the new hardback from Banner of Truth. It is an excellent edition. Just remember that Vos thinks in Dutch, and so his English takes a little getting used to. But it is a magnificent work.
