I had a bit of brief discussion recently with a couple of people after they heard a sermon on 1 Samuel 28, particularly in relation to verses 14 & 15.

I know there are differing views on the question as to whether or not it is Samuel. So my question is what view do you hold to and why?

Looking forward to your input

Here is my thoughts based upon a recent reading of the section. I believe it it him as in the commentary in the ESV Study Bible points out some noteworthy points. One the fact that he this spirit who is named Samuel(vv 15-16) uses the name of the Lord seven times. In addition he prophesies of the death of both Saul and his sons, a true prophecy. Then we see similar manner of talking toward Saul as Samuel did when he was alive such as referring to David as his neighbor. I will conclude with one final point which I thought whoever the commentator made good sense and a keen observation of which I will directly quote," So whatever the limits on a medium's power normally were, in this case the Lord let her rouse the spirit of Samuel himself." Do hope this helped as I know myself I've thought about this particular section of Scripture before myself. Good day and God bless my brethren
