Just heard the words quoted during lunch and they brought me great comfort. Take heart Christian, our Lord has overcome the world!

Joy to the World
Words: Isaac Watts, The Psalms of David, 1719.

Joy to the world, the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing.

Joy to the earth, the Savior reigns!
Let men their songs employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.

No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found.

He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders, of His love.

And no, this isn't to start the debate if Watts was Post or Amil! :lol::handshake:

What?! You mean politics is not beyond the redemptive work of Christ? And if I follow that reasoning I must deduce that it must be informed by Christian principles over against those at http://www.upper-register.com/theonomy/commonargs.html who "question the assumption that Scripture is a sufficient source of guidance for societal and political questions".

Indeed, the birth of Christ was a politically volatile event. Didn't mean to open up a can of worms.:lol:

Has anyone been to a church that has sung a hymn like this one other than the at the Christmas season.

I would love to hear this sung soon and can't wait until Dec.

And likewise - just as this isn't an eschatological poll/debate - neither is it one for exclusive psalmody or the regulative principle. I know some people do not observe the church calendar or sing anything than inspired psalms...cut me some slack...;)

Just between you and me, I was listening to Bahnsen's 3 lectures on Civil Law during lunchtime and he was making the same point...

It still is a rousing hymn, even for a premil though - right?

I'm not a fan of Isaac Watts or Christmas carols, but this hymn (inspired by Psalm 98) is a powerful song. Joy to the world, the Lord is come! :sing:

A fan of Christmas or not, I had a good friend of the reconstruction camp who had this sung by the congregation at his funeral. It was great!
