Wynteriii

Puritan Board Freshman
So this coming semester, I have the opportunity to take some on campus classes. I would be on campus from 8:30 AM to 9:30 PM. Ever since I have been taking classes at this JC, I have felt that there needed to be (for lack of an actual title) a "Christian Club" or "Christian Bible Study".

There seems to be one already, the "Crusaders For Christ". It sounds to Billy Graham or worst, Jimmy Swaggart to me. I have contacted the representative to see what is the purpose of this group, but I must say that I have my doubts about the club already. My High School experience with "Christian Clubs", there was fine observation and interpretation of the Bible but no application.

I'll sit in to a couple of meetings and if they need some reform, then I'll do what I can if the Lord wills. If we can't agree with the direction of the group, then we would part ways as brothers and not as enemies. If I start a Bible study, then I would hope that they would not curse for I would not do so to them. We would work together, not apart.

Please pray for me while I pray to see If this what God wants for me to do.

Wynter, I'm the President of an evangelical student org at Penn State that is not Reformed. I say this to show that I also deal on a daily basis with the struggle of being a Reformed Christian on a secular campus in a campus ministry that is not distinctly reformed. In my own leadership at this organization I often find my desires to "reform" the group are desires for the group to be exactly what I want it to be to suit my spiritual pride. I'm not saying that is your desire, but it is a real temptation for me when I am not loving them like I should.

My advice to you as someone in a somewhat similar situation is not to come in and see where they need reforming, but to come in and seek to love them as brothers in Christ to the best of your ability. Be the best Reformed witness to them that you can possibly be and you will be amazed at what the Lord teaches you and how the Lord uses you.

I was going to encourage you to remember your cape. Zach has much better advice.

I thought you were in seminary? Now you're in junior college! HUh?? LOL

It is great if you can get an on campus ministry going. Is there no RUF on campus? I would contact the local PCA and see if you can get them to organize one on your campus.

Otherwise, I would contact a few of the local ministers and see if they would "lead" if you will organize. One of the HUGE problems with on campus ministry is that it replaces the local church. DO NOT REPLACE Jesus' BRIDE WITH A HANDMAID! Make sure this gets underscored.

Have fun doing it too! I love college ministry. Lots of exciting things always going on.
