I have one from Ikea (about $12). It's been great. I love it.
You might also consider getting a grinder, too, but I have no recommendation on those. So far I've just have them grind it for me at the store.

Also, is the grinder a burr grinder? The grinder is very important because you want a consistent grind for the coffee. Otherwise, you'll get different sizes in there. I go with the coarsest grind on mine and get a nice consistent grind every time.

I own a Bodum French Press from Starbucks and it works very well. One doesn't need anything fancy or overpriced to get good results. I use mine most mornings when I get up well before dawn to avoid waking our little man.

That looks nice.
I've seen some really nice ones before; like one made with a copper skeleton that I gifted someone else. I'm still happy with my plastic/glass press.

Of course, you want to get your wife something nice, but this is not rocket science. A French Press is simple "technology." All you need is a jug into which to put coffee grounds and hot water. They really make great coffee once you figure out your own favorite proportions. Just get a nice one - and enjoy it together.
