Recovering from the CRASH

As much as PC crashes stink, I was worried you had been in a car accident.

Was it a "hard crash" ie hard drive dead? I recently was able to retrieve some difficult to replace genealogy data from my lame Windows ME system that crashed early this year. The drive was otherwise operating; often it is only the system files that have gone bad. I used Knoppix which is a complete system that boots the pc and ids all the hardware allowing me to plug in a USB drive and retrieve the data. Pretty neat. Backup, backup, backup!!

I use Acronis Backup software. Excellent investment.
