What resources would you recommend on the subject of suffering and sanctification? I'm preparing to do an independent subject and need recommendations (modern, Reformers, medieval, or fathers) on good places to start. Do the Puritans talk much about suffering?

I guess my search is for classic and scholarly works or passages. As I said, I'm doing this for an independent study that will hopefully result in a paper on the subject.

Scott, I'll put those on my list.

Dr. David Calhoun is teaching a class on suffering this semester at Covenant.

I'll see if I can get a copy of the syllabus for you.

Modern day, I really enjoyed (I know enjoying books on suffering.... I see the irony) D.A. Carson's book and Lig. Duncan's book.

This work by Abraham Kuyper is great. It is a valuable read not only for those with deadly illness, but also to recognize God's care over us in the day to day minor illnesses that can be so easily passed off without even a prayer.
