I wanted to pass this along. It is from Samuel Rutherford and he is lampooning the idea of solo scriptura, which is interpereting the Bible outside the context of confessional boundaries. It is a satirical prayer of an independent (or solo scriptura adherent):
Lord open my eyes, and increase my knowledge, grant that thy holy Spirit may bestow upon my dark soul more sceptical, conjectural, and fluctuating knowledge to know and believe things with a reserve, and with a leaving of room to believe the contrary tomorrow of what which I believe today, and the contradictory of that the third day which I shall believe tomorrow, and so till I die; let me Lord, have the grace of a circular faith, running like the wheel of a wind-mill.
