50 years ago today - on Wednesday, June 6, 1962 - the Beatles inhabited Abbey Road Studios in London for the very first time. They worked on four songs that day: "Besame Mucho," "Love Me Do," "P. S. I Love You," and "Ask Me Why." The session was produced by Ron Richards and George Martin, and engineered by Norman Smith and Chris Neal. (Just for the record.)

(Martin had to step out for some reason, so he asked Richards to go ahead and start the session. Smith went on to engineer all the Beatles' recordings from this first session through the "Rubber Soul" album (1965). He then went on to become a producer himself. His first signing: Pink Floyd.)

And so, a legendary recording career began that day when John Lennon, 21, Paul McCartney, 19, George Harrison, 19, and Richard Starkey, 21 first walked in that door.
