The tenth commandment and corrupt inner emotions (Johann Gerhard)

The last commandment about coveting is to be traced through all the previous commandments to mean that not only outward acts but also even corrupt inner emotions are forbidden in them.

No wonder then that the apostle Paul said he (thought) he could obey every commandment but that one.

We all have a fountain of sin within us, namely the human heart, out of which pours all manner of adultery, murder, thievery, and lies.

The fountain head itself being the covetousness, the illicit desire, of our hearts.
