In the Lord's Supper, many people believe that there is no communication of Christ to us in the sacrament, and that it is a mere memorial, a remembrance of Christ. John Calvin disagrees:
[W]e will confess, without doubt, that to deny that a true communication of Jesus Christ is presented to us in the Supper, is to render this holy sacrament frivolous and useless-an execrable blasphemy unfit to be listened to (from Short Treatise on the Lord's Supper, in the Tracts and Letters, volume 2, p. 170).
