What's up with the REC?

I understand the Reformed Episcopal Church as plans to merge with the Anglican Province of America (APA). Seems a few REC congregations are concerned with the anglo-catholic nature of the APA and drift in that direction by the combined REC/APA.

The REC used to be pretty solid for a liturgical denomination. What is the driving force behind the merger?

I'm not hearing much about this as not plugged into that crowd; though I know one fellow who has already resigned his office and left the REC over this, and opined to me some. Evidently the leadership is pushing the merger.

From what I've heard (my dad went to Reformed Episcopal Seminary in Philadelphia and is good friends with one of the bishops in the REC) is that the leadership of the REC is pushing this union and the "more reformed" folks in the REC say there is going to be a split over it. I'm not sure how many, if any, have already jumped ship, but I'm sure some are/will.
