Who were/are the Nicolaitans that are mentioned in Rev 2 & 3?

I lean toward option one. There are differing views within many acceptable commentaries & the writings contained in the Early Church Fathers collection. The breakdown of the title itself has the elements of a) laity and b) one who has victory or conquest over another in many commentaries.
