Motyer was a very helpful Old Testament scholar.

His love for God's word and people clearly came through in his very valuable writings. Although this is a sad day for the church, I'm sure Dr. Motyer himself would remind us that we carry on through Christ, not through dependence on any of his servants.

I just saw that over at the Gospel Coalition site. He was a very helpful and faithful scholar/pastor. Never just a scholar. Everything I've read from him reveals a pastor's wisdom and concern amid the scholarship.

I have found his writings to be very edifying and helpful, and a pleasure to read, as well. And, thanks to that obit, I now know how his last name was pronounced! RIP.
