Hey PB,

I’ve finally made up my mind and have chosen to go with the ESV. Now I’m needing some help on which ESV Bible to use for preaching.

Would you recommend the ESV preaching Bible or something else? If the ESV preaching Bible, would you go with verse-by-verse (VBV) or paragraph form?

I personally enjoy the paragraph form for regular reading—which it would be nice to use this Bible for my personal study along with preaching—but I know some people state VBV is superior for preaching.

Opinions?

My two cents is that you should go with whatever you'd be happy to use for regular reading. I find it very helpful to use the same Bible for everything so that I can really get to know it. The paragraph edition of the preaching Bible is a great one for that. You might also check out the Heritage if you like single column. Similar layout but a touch more portable I believe.

That’s what I was thinking regarding going with what I’d like for my personal reading.

Also, I definitely prefer the single column, so I will check that one out! Thank you.

For preaching I would go with a dual-column, verse by verse format. It makes it far easier to locate individual verses quickly. I havent looked at the ESV preaching bible but there are dual-column vbv options. The Cambridge ESV Topaz appears a good exampke of this.
