Well, a new year is right around the corner. For those of you who set goals and resolutions, what are your plans for the year? Bible reading plans, reading goals, habits, desires to grow in holiness, etc. How do you plan to live well to the glory of God in 2026?

I have set a goal to make sure I read at least one book in a number of categories each year; pastoral ministry, a systematic theology, a preaching book, a book on marriage or the family, a novel, a Christian biography, etc.

Bible-wise I'm trying out a reading plan on Logos called the "Kingdom Reading Plan" which is 4 daily readings (3 OT 1 NT), but draws each of the 3 OT readings from the three sections of the Hebrew canon.

I'm also trying to figure out my Greek NT plan. I've read the Greek NT pretty consistently, but have also consistently failed 3 years straight to manage getting through the whole NT in Greek. Not sure if I want to try again or take another tack this year. It seems I am just too slow in some of the more challenging books.

This year will be my first full year out of seminary, so I probably need to set some new goals as well. I look forward to seeing what others have and possibly adopting some new goals for myself.

Got any tips for a first-year seminary student?
If you have a family and full-time job as I did, be content to get a B in order to maintain a semblance of a healthy balance. If you are freed up to focus on study, then give it all you've got!

Either way, make sure your local church life and your elders are just as important to you as school.

Where are you going to seminary, brother?

Solid. Thanks for the advice. I just started classes in the fall, at Faith Bible Seminary. It's a small seminary here in Indiana. Currently taking Greek and Hebrew simultaneously o_O

To finally get fully through the book A Puritan Theology: Doctrine for Life, by Beeke and Jones

These are reading/study goals:
With God's help, finishing memorizing one verse from each chapter of the Psalter (up to chapter 30 so far) and read through the Psalter as many times as I can to become more familiar with God's inspired hymn book.
As for reading goals, I have a few book lists I will pull from but I will also endeavor with God's help to read some more ST's - Turretin is in the queue for that. Lastly, this will be my 3rd year to read through a commentary of the WCF in January and this year I have selected A.A. Hodge.

I have a few:

1. Study the Westminster Standards and other selected works during our Church’s Officer Training that I was invited to a few months back. It’s been humbling and quite exciting to learn more about leading and loving God’s people as a potential officer candidate.

2. Make it to Greenville for GPTS Explore and their 2026 Confessional Conference. Due to the Lord’s goodness, my family and I need to only pay for hotel and airfare.

3. Continue working with my Session to discern the call to ministry.

4. Most importantly, love the Lord and my family well in the midst of these developments.

To be consistent in reading:
-Bible generally
-Greek NT
-Systematic

Consistency in memorizing Greek

Physical goals:
-Lose 10lbs
-Run a half marathon @ 8min/mile pace (scheduled April 11)
-Implement a bodyweight exercise regimen 2-3 days a week.

Get through at least Part 1 (Books I - X) of "City of God". At my current pace, I'll finish the whole thing sometime in 2030.

Make time to exercise -- it isn't something to put off for when I've done other things and maybe "have time". It needs to be a priority and routine as much as brushing my teeth.

Get ordained, and get started in the ministry to which the Lord would be pleased to call me for the rest of my life.

I almost envy my senior Pastor, as he can and does read his daily devotions and sermon studying right out of an from just the Hebrew and Greek texts

See you there!

We should try and connect while we’re there. My pastor and one of our Elders will also be there. I have a few other folks I’ve corresponded with I’d like to meet in person, Lord willing.
I’ll probably be the tallest person there and I usually sign up for the lunch with prospective students, so I should be easy to spot!
