@Henoch just posted a thread about fasting and the link posted by @Ed Walsh was very helpful. However, because my question is very specific, I thought it best to start a new thread.
About two weeks ago I listened to a sermon on Isa 58 and the Lord really moved me to fast for our church. As some of you know, I have a severe disability (a muscle disease and an incomplete T5 spinal cord injury). This has held me back in trying to fast for a long time, but when I experienced the call, I started a 24 hour fast that evening. After 21:00hrs, I only took water and medications.
The start of the fast was fantastic. I received a clarity in prayer and could pray and study the Word more and more intense than usual. My intercession was also more fervent. Those hours were very special and very blessed.
But around 19:00hrs, this experience shifted. I couldn't think, couldn't read and had hardly any strength to speak. At that time, there was no caregiver, so I couldn't eat (or drink) until 20:45hrs. This was really, really tough and I felt weak for days after fasting.
I'm glad that I heeded the call to fast, but the consequences were heavy. So, I would really appreciate advice on this matter. When is fasting 'too much'? And in what way would you fast in my position?
Thank you all for any advice!
EDIT: No idea why I forgot to mention this, but I also drank tea, because I can drink that faster in bigger quantities than water. That's necessary, since I can only drink when a caregiver is around.
