Had fun talking with Pastor Gene Cook on The Narrow Mind

The audio should be up later today. There's a link at my site also.

I feel a little like the Romper Room lady saying this, but I heard Rich's voice and it was good to talk to Bruce. Josh from Jackson called in too.

I'm in Quantico, VA right now and wasn't planning on downloading any podcasts this week but now I must listen to your interview.

By the way, that's my command voice. I'm normally much more pleasant in casual conversation.

Today was my first Monday back from the States and I downloaded the interview last night to listen to it while I worked out today. While my muscles were getting huge, so was my mind!

Great job. You are a very articulate defender of Reformed Orthodoxy. I'm glad he brought up those students at the end of the conversation. I believe he had unfairly painted WSCAL in an antinomian light in a previous conversation with Dr. Frame when he initially told the story. I'd have asked the same thing as you: "Can you give me their names so I can square them away...."

It is interesting how easily the Reformed position (read Biblical) position is confused. It's strange that we have to explain the idea that our imputed righteousness is not a license to sin to people who call themselves Reformed. Folks have a hard time getting the idea that the Law doesn't produce the fruits of righteousness but that fruits flow out of a heart transformed by the Gospel - a heart that then embraces and rejoices in the Law as a means to pleasing the Father.

At my Church, the new pastor has the equation upside down. He keeps preaching on the demands of being like Christ to the people and then invites them at the end to rededicate themselves to being better Christians. The frustration for me is that it always misses the point that we are NEVER as righteous as we ought and those who only come forward when they think they've missed the mark and were otherwise justified in their own hearts are being set up for self-righteousness. It is torturous for me to watch.

I think Gene is on the board.

I wasn't offended. Sometimes students get a little carried away. I'm happy at least they are listening for the gospel!

Gene, I'm serious. If you want to send me the names, I'll talk to them.

I didn't mean to imply that he had given offense. I'm glad he asked the question. I think he had encountered a few folks and drawn some conclusions. It was innocent enough. Interestingly, you didn't know where he was going but I did when he asked. You immediately went to the third use of the Law and explained it really well and gave him no reason to assume that this is the way Westminster SoCal trains its students by default. I was simply stating that I was glad that those who might have gotten a bad impression of the Seminary from that previous conversation got a chance to hear otherwise.

As for Gene posting, he applied for an account but hasn't posted yet. He's said that participating on boards is not his thing repeatedly so I don't expect him to post much.

Anybody who remembers Romper Room is okay in my book. I remember our Romper Room lady as being quite...uh...huge.

Being from Southern California, I also remember Engineer Bill (who had "milk issues", as they say today) and, of course, Soupy Sales.

Howdy Doody, however, was a little before my time. I grew up watching Captain Kangaroo.

Now that I've taken the thread off-topic...
