Thanks for that, Dr. Clark. This very issue is one which plagued me for quite a while when I was still a Charismatic Arminian. I was really worried as a Freshman in college that I was going to choose the wrong major and ruin God's plan for my life.

ZOWIE!! Dr. Clark - this was great!

You made a "bowl of spegetti" into something clear and simple (though perhaps not so easy for some Christians to hear?) Here's my summary of what I heard you say:

Q: "What is the secret to knowing God's will?"

A: "There is no secret. There is His secret will (which we can never know) and His revealed will which is written in the Holy Scriptures for us to study and learn about. If we study responsibly and are obedient, we get wisdom! Then we use wisdom to make decisions.

But most Christians don't seem to want to read The Book.

:book2:

I remember how freeing it was when I heard this same message on RC Sproul's Renewing Your Mind. It's much like Augustine's "Love God and do what you will."

I'm curious as to what you had in mind for the "right question." I think "Does this please God?" is a better question.

Yes, that's a good question or even better: what does Scripture say?

What does love require?

These are good questions.

I like "What does scripture say?" even better because it doesn't divorce the question of "Is this pleasing to God?" from the fact that we know what pleases God from His Word. Asking "Is this pleasing to God?" on its own often left me as a nervous wreck. Is it more pleasing to God that I major in X or Y? I was never able to figure that out because that's not in His revealed will, but I lost much sleep trying to figure it out. Then I was introduced to the absolute sovereignty of God, so I chose which one seemed best and decided to trust that God would take care of me.

OK, this is driving me nuts: the theme music sounds so familiar, but I can't place it:confused:

Oh yeah, the program was great too. If I had a radio station, I'd broadcast it. But then again, I'd only be in business for a week, because I'd only broadcast good stuff ;)

Excellent Scott! Very well done. Thank you.
