you're right, I did only answer half the question :) I feel like a show-off giving the answer. Don't wanna go all-out now and reveal the mystery ;) I'll let ya'll know tomorrow if I don't see anyone else has figured it out.
i'm gonna go lay in my bed and hopefully get 5 minutes of rest in four hours.

Doesn't look very mathematical at all. That said you can draw a line through any n numbers using an (n - 1) power polynomial, so mathematically you could think up any solution you liked. My guess is the reign of successive OT kings or judges, would have to look it up though
 
Tom is right. The next number is 50 (I looked up the answer online), but I have no idea how one arrives at that answer. Tom, I appeal to your charity: what is the solution?

You do what you have to do to get the job done. That desk must have been holding him back, and he probably bounced new ideas off of those invisible people. :D

I may have to start finding codes in the newspaper if I do not get the solution. ;)
 
The answer is that the number of functions that satisfy that limited sequence is infinite, and that therefore the next item in the sequence cannot be determined.

Now if you asked for the simplest function that would satisfy and what the next number would be, then an answer would be possible, provided you defined "simplest" clearly.
