I read BH Carroll's Interpretation of the English Bible on Daniel 9:25-27(Dr Gill thinks the same)
And he seems to start counting 70 weeks from 457 BC - Christ's crucifixion being in the 70th week
But others seem to say that the 70th week hasn't begun yet(Dr Robertson, Hengstenberg)- that 69 weeks of seven years are between 445 BC and Christ's crucifixion and that the 70th week has a remote fulfillment?
Thoughts, guys?
It is amazing how specific the details of this prophecy are though, so specific that it even fixes the date of Jesus' first coming!! Only God can be the author of such a prophecy!

I agree with EJ Young, The Prophecy of Daniel: A Commentary (1949) that the time period is symbolic. The divisions of the overall period indicate three general periods or moments of fulfillment encompassing the events conceived. The starting point is specified, and I think best corresponds to Cyrus' decree of 539 BC (if some prefer the 445).

In this view, the starting point does not lead to a precise count, because that precision is not relevant to fulfillment. There is a short term (7), a longer term (62), and a relatively brief term, when all Daniel writes about will be accomplished. The concluding (70th) seven or "week" corresponds to the ministry of Christ occupying about 3.5 years; and in my opinion, after a 40 year reprieve, the final 3.5yrs Jewish War with Rome saw the completion of the prophecy and the destructive end of the Old Covenant order.

I mention this, not to see you abandon the view you prefer in favor of it because of any who hold it; but so you are aware that other Bible students who take the text seriously but do not choose either of the dates you list in the thread title for a starting point.
