A cat named Calvin?

Ok something somewhat random "¦.. Then again maybe not as I´m thinking about getting a cat. Anyhow, does anyone have a pet that they have named after somebody form church history?

Although, many have noted that it is a rather cruel thing to do to a dog.

Yes, we have a cat named Calvin. And his brother was initially named Luther but now we call him Buster.

Here is Calvin with his buddies, er, budgies, Peepers and Kip.

And here is Buster acting like Luther.

Is Walker, Texas Ranger from church history? Uh, no, I guess not. Well my dog is named "Ranger". My cousin's dog is named Piper after Dr. John Piper.

Now since we moved from dead people into living people it begs the question: Would you want a dog named after you?

Very perceptive. In the Hispanic culture one never gives an animal a human name because it is considered derogatory to all people with that name. Generally animals simply have no name. They simply refer to them as 'the dog.' Interestingly enough, there is no word in Spanish that can be translated as 'pet', and very few Hispanics keep cats as pets. While living in Mexico I never met anyone who kept a cat. I do know a few here in Texas who keep cats, but they are generally second and third generation immigrants.

Some, do get rather creative with names for their animals, however. Large dogs are often named 'Rey' (King). For reasons I do not fully comprehend it is not considered derogatory to the king to have a dog called 'King."

Other popular names are 'Oso' (Bear), 'Leon' (Lion), and my personal favorite, 'Solo Vino.' That name is literally translated 'He Came Alone', but might best be translated 'He Just Showed Up'. Fully half of the named small dogs are called 'Piwi'. We spell that word 'PeeWee.' Most of the other half are called 'Piojo' which mean 'Lice.' Unfortunately, that name is often a description as well as a name.

So, to answer your question. It's fine if my English-speaking friends call their dogs 'Lance,' but if my Spanish-speaking friends start calling their dogs 'Lance' I have a real problem.

When I was in second grade I was bit by a cat. Took 14 rabies shots in the stomach. If I named a cat it would sound something like Luther addressing the Pope after the Papal bull was sent out calling him a heretic.
