Any Book recommendations?

Any book recommendations? How about list of recommended reading material? Especially on topics pertaining to reformed theology. Any systematic theology you are dying to recommend? Perhaps you want to make a case for paedo-communion?


How about fiction? Anything good?


And how would you recommend I go about developing a habit for a lifetime of reading? Rushdoony read a book a day. Impressive.

I actually laughed out loud at that one! However the LBCF is an accepted reformed confession on the board and as such allows for their presence. PC on the other hand finds no place in any of the reformed confessions nor in scripture itself.

For the purposes of the board, being a baptist is not synonymous with being contra-confessional. To move from one to the other you would have to be a baptist unwilling to affirm the 1689 London Confession.

As for systematic theology, a learned friend recommends reading a Reformed confession (with a commentary), a compendium, and then a whole system. Read the Westminster Confession and Catechisms with Robert Shaw's commentary (or the Heidelberg Catechism with Ursinus's commentary); my favorite compendium is John Brown's Systematic Theology (originally titled A Compendious View of Natural and Revealed Religion), but it won't damage you to go with Ussher or Watson or Ames; Turretin, a Brakel, or Bavinck will give you good treatments in greater detail. But if you haven't read Calvin's Institutes you should not let that situation go uncorrected long.

I've had some things with church life that've taken up more time than expected (not a bad thing!), so I haven't been so great about this... However, the link to Mark Dever's talk in that post will really help you out a lot.

The same way Rushdoony did, pick up a book, open it, and start reading. It really is that simple.

The site has an excellent search facility - enter the area of interest and lots of threads come up. You'll just need three or four lifetimes to scratch the surface!
