I understand many people read it to their children during the Advent season. Just wondering if it's any good.

I haven't read the story but I read a review on Amazon. This person, who has an eight years old and five years old, was concerned about the violence in the story. Other than that the reviews appear to be very good.

My wife found this book before the 2008 Advent Season.

We read it to our then 5 1/2 year old daughter, and our 3 1/2 year old son.

They absolutely loved the story. It is very exciting. Each night kind of leaves you with a cliffhanger until the next night.

There are some parts of the story that are a little frightening for the kids. Jotham is being chased by a bad guy and during certain parts, my daughter would run out of the room because she didn't want to hear. But she always had a smile on her face  She would then run back and say, "what happened!"

My boy loved the "scary" parts.

They couldn't wait to read it each night.

We are reading it again this year. In fact, we started it last night.

I think it is a good book and would heartily recommend it for the Advent Season. Given the scary parts, which we were unaware of before we bought the book, I might have waited until my children were 6 or 7 to read...

On a side note, we named our 4th child "Jotham", who was born this year. We fell in love with the name after reading the book last year so this book will always have a special place in our family.

We've read it. I thought it was interesting, and all the kids did too. I wasn't analyzing it theologically, though, so I can't say anything on that line.
