Art Linkletter (1912-2010)

Art Linkletter died today (May 26) at home in Los Angeles. He was 97. I remember watching "Art Linkletter's House Party" during the 1960s. He was the originator of things like "Kids Say the Darndest Things" and had a very long career in show business. "House Party" ran for many years on CBS in the early afternoon. His adoptive father was a Christian minister, I believe, so who knows about Art's spiritual status...

He and his wife, who survives him, would have been married 75 years this November 25 - one of the longest-lasting show business marriages I've heard of.

You young pups won't remember him, of course...

One of the DJ's on a Christian radio channel said on the air this morning that he met Art Linkletter about 10 years ago and during their conversation Linkletter professed to be a Christain and spoke about his faith. Hopefully it is true.

Something weird is that my sons, mom, and I just saw his recorded (on ATT DVR) interview with Robert Schuller a few nights ago. Then we learned of his death. He was an American, like Bing Crosby and Bob Hope. I loved all three three of them. Too bad comedy and commentary has taken a turn for the worse. This is wonderful.

You gotta admit that the above link reflects American life. I love Art and mourn his death.
But then again I mourn getting old.
