I have a quick question that may seem a little obvious but I need to ask anyway. I had a discussion with one of my friends about art and the morality of certain areas of it; particularly the figure drawing area which includes drawing nude male and female figures. Nudity has long been present in art (i.e: Michaelangelo's paintings on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel). I believe it is wrong but when pressed to explain why I find myself ill-equiped to argue my position. My friend had some good points but it was not enough to sway me.
One of his main reasons was that the reason artists go through drawing nude figures is so they better understand anatomy. I do agree with him when he says, "It is much harder to draw people when you don't understand everything that is underneath," but that doesn't seem reason enough to pass it as moral.
I would appreciate any guidance.
