The 51st division held the German lines while other British forces escaped at Dunkirk. This Scottish Country Dance was written by a couple of 51st division officers while in a POW camp. Two copies were to be delivered via the Red Cross to the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society. The Germans kept one of the copies and spent the rest of WWII trying to decode the secret message!

It's not as good as the Drunken Piper played on a well-tuned Highland Pipe. Not bad though.

Maybe you could experiment to get better drones on the synthesiser.

Is the "clawhammer" style of banjo playing more legato than staccato. The Highland Pipes are a very legato instrument.

I play with other musicians sometimes. They prefer pipes that are in A rather than B flat.

About 200 years ago Highland Pipes were in A. Over the last 200 years the pitch has risen somewhat.

We now have small pipes, electronic pipes and Highland pipe chanters in A for use with other instruments like guitars, banjos and fiddles.

Here's quite a good rendition of a Pipe Band playing two parts of the Drunken Piper with some other tunes:-

The great piper Gordon Duncan who died a few years ago played Highland Pipes in B flat alongside Irish banjo player Gerry O'Connor on his second album, "The Circular Breath". It's worth checking out.
