Beauty Through The Senses

One of the reasons God has blessed us with the senses, is that we may truly know beauty in life, and have such rich and lovely experiences, that words could never explain.

What sense do you think you value most? I think the sense of hearing has done wonders inside of my heart. Especially when I hear a deep and beautiful peice of music, it amazes me how so much beauty in life comes alive within me.

What sense do you think you value most?

That's an easy question for me. It is my sense of sight. Just this morning I had a somewhat difficult surgery on the macula of my eye and my retina. I have every confidence in the doctor and the Lord that it will be successful. With my eyes, I can read the word of God. I can see the glory of creation. And read the many wonderful works of Christians, living and dead, who teach me more about the God who loves me.

I think about this all the time, and I hope to never forget or take for granted my senses.

This is slightly off topic but, my cousin is blind. She has never "seen" anything and has absolutely no light perception. But, what she does have is the others and let me tell you, she has a wonderful imagination of what things look like. I will sometimes be sitting with her on a bench, and there will be a slight breeze, or a bee will fly near us, and her thoughts on it is just wild! She feels that wind is a reminder from the Lord to breath, be still, and trust in Him regardless of what is going on around us. When I read to her to Word of the God, her face illuminates with joy... even though she cannot see the words, she feels them and hears them. It is quite amazing to see.

As for me, I would have to say sight. I treasure sunrises and sunsets as they are such great reminder to me that joy comes in the morning, and He has risen. I also like to see the people He has created in His image... beautiful, beautiful people in the world isn't there?

This was a great question btw!

We've been touched by the beauty of birds. The day of receiving a diagnosis for a serious illness, God providentially sent a flock of sparrows to our back yard where we were sitting. They were not in season and just came and sang for a bit and then left. How we rejoiced to be reminded of Matthew 10:31. All this to say I am ever grateful for sight.

I think for me it is the sense of smell. For me there is enjoyment in the scent of the Spring and Summer air, especially during the rainy seasons. Not to mention I also love the smell of food and home cooked meals ;)

Isn't it amazing how smells can bring about such heart warming experiences, especially with sweet memories of the past?

I agree! Smells can take you back ten years ago. I think I feel that same way when I hear a song. I was in a restaurant the other day, and a song came back that immediately reminded me of a time in my life.

I have been looking at the story of the man who was blind from birth. He had never seen his mother’s face; never seen a blue sky with white cotton wool clouds; never seen a bird flying overhead. How could you explain them to one who is born blind? But the great Physician in Israel gave him sight, both physically and spiritually. For the first he responded, “once I was blind, now I see. But for the second he said, Lord I believe, and he worshipped Him.” It is at that point he saw the face of Christ for the first time! What a blessing that must have been. We with the eye of faith we see Him now, but friends there is coming a day when we shall see Him face to face. We shall Behold the King in His beauty, and the land that is very far off. But we are also assured that we shall see Him as He is, and be like Him. What a blessing, and what a face.

If I had to choose one, I might choose my sense of hearing because there is such music as this in the world:

But of course when driving through the hills of central California, one would miss one's eyes for more reasons than one.

Ruben, you know me well enough to guess my heart approbation of this!

But, like you, I also value sight immeasurably.

I am frankly looking forward to a thoroughly renewed creation in which both the groaning world will be delivered and we will have a use of our senses that we've never known in our state of humiliation. It can be quite wonderful even here. Just think, brothers and sisters, what it will be like to have the fullest use of our senses in a glorified body and soul in a renovated creation!

Peace,
Alan

At the end of his life, the actor William Powell (1892-1984) was both blind and deaf. It must be a scary thing to be locked up inside your own head like that.

For me it is without a doubt my sense of sight. I am a God-centered landscape photographer. I use it as a means to connect with God and point others to the beauty of His creation. The mountains have been a major player in my spiritual development. My wife and I worship, pray, and read Scriptures in some of the most breathtaking landscapes in CO. The wilderness is truly a blessing from God that I am forever grateful for.

Just a followup on my operation. According to the surgeon, it went very well. The sight in my right eye is somewhat improved already. This is unusual. It usually takes about three months to regain 50% of normal sight. I am encouraged to believe that I could be restored to a full 100%

I do praise the Lord for his goodness to me. And I am talking about much more than my earthly eyes. After 45 years the Lord has given me a Spiritual site to know the things freely given to me by God. If I only had the words to tell you how much humbling coupled with a newfound fellowship with the Living God I now am blessed to enjoy. I don't know if I have stored enough spare change in heaven to amount to anything, but these past few years of fellowship with the Trinity of God has brought a measure of heaven to lowly me while still on earth. At times it is almost more than I can bear. Praise the Lord for his goodness to his adopted sons. The improvement of my right eye is just so much more icing on the cake. Truly sight of both kinds is my favorite sense.

Thanks for your prayers.

Praise God! That is amazing news. I will add you to my prayers. I am constantly in awe of the Living God and His mercy.

Hearing. I drive fifty hours a week and if it wasn't for being able to listen to the scriptures, podcasts, audiobooks, et cetera I simply wouldn't be where I am theologically.

Your photography is *gorgeous*. Thank you for sharing it. I just wanted to note that there is a typo in the link so it doesn't open to your website (.con instead of .com). correct link: www.wildanalog.com
