Calvin 500

we just received a letter from RPTS in Pittsburgh outlining the Calvil 500 Commemorative Tour, 30 June to 10 July 2009. Starting out in Paris, the tour continues through Strasbourg, Noyon, and Orleans, and ends up in Geneva where the preaching conference will be held at the St Pierre Cathedral from Calvin's pulpit. There was too much information in the letter to include here but this thing looks really GOOD.

Our trip to Scotland has been postponed until next year (our pastor is still working on his disertation) and unless the Lord provides us with a LOT of money there's no way we could do this one (it's telling that neither the initial letter or the website talk about prices!), but, oh, just reading about it was enough to get the juices flowing!!! I sent for the official brochure just for the fun of it - I enjoy torturing myself!!!

I actually looked at the website, it looks good compared to Jean Calvin. We have to watch out because there are a lot of liberal theologians who really like John Calvin, and will be attending the celebrations as well. I am not sure which presentations will be orthodox, and which won't. I think the St. Peter's Cathedral is also a liberal calvinistic church since when my friend went to visit it some years ago, there was a woman preaching.

I don't even think Calvin would like to know that we are celebrating 500 years of calvinism, since he did not even want to have a tomb in his comemoration, lest some people make him into an idol.
