Covenant Theological Seminary Reputation

Hello everyone,
I was curious about the reputation surrounding CTS. I've heard from a number of people that CTS has a reputation for producing progressives in the PCA and was advised against it when I was choosing a seminary (I'm currently enrolled at WTS online) since it would make me be seen as a progressive within the denomination. I find it odd that conservatives and confessionalists in the PCA seem to migrate toward seminaries other than the denominational seminary.
Could anyone who has experience with CTS speak to the progressive reputation of the seminary? I'm curious as to why it has this reputation and if it's a deserved one.

I have heard the same reputation of CTS as you brother. Unfortunately the fruits from this institution have not been encouraging.

My own Pastor specifically said he would never recommend for someone to go to CTS. Everything I have heard indicates that the school has given in to/embraced a lot of "wokeness" over the last number of years.

CTS does have that reputation. Event its grads admit they are less theologically equipped than other Seminary grads.

Illustrative of this was CTS's decision to rename it's Systematic Theology department to Missional Theology. THey ended up backtracking, but it shows that their focus is on a form of transformationalism.

Getting linked to a celebration of homosexuality didn't do much to bolster their reputation among the conservatives and moderates. And I described their leader's public response as petulant.

Are you able to cite a source for this? I'm asking not to challenge the veracity of your story, but because I'm genuinely interested in gathering hard data on this particular topic.

I can't give you hard data. I can just offer my experience t Presbytery for many years. I've run into more than one CTS grad who has admitted (without prompting) that other Seminaries prepare their grads in a more theologically vigorous manner. I can also tell you that, years ago, there was an Overture to cut CTS loose from the denomination. Though it failed Overtures and there were no speeches in favor of cutting it loose, 40% of the Assembly voted in favor of doing so.
