What is your favorite Bible verse or passage, and why?

Ezekiel 16.

In it, God describes Israel as an orphaned female infant left out on the ground, forsaken and unloved. God takes care of Israel and raises her in love, crowns her with wonderful clothes, jewelry, etc, and becomes her Husband. However, Israel grows up and becomes a prostitute who uses her God-given jewelry to lure her many lovers to bed. God goes on to describe her in such a horrible, horrible manner, telling of all her wicked deeds. Then, out of nowhere, He says:

"Nevertheless, I will remember My covenant with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish an everlasting covenant with you. Then you will remember your ways and be ashamed when you receive your sisters, both your older and your younger; and I will give them to you as daughters, but not because of your covenant." Thus I will establish My covenant with you, and you shall know that I am the LORD,so that you may remember and be ashamed and never open your mouth anymore because of your humiliation, when I have forgiven you for all that you have done," the Lord GOD declares.

I suppose if I had to choose one it would be Romans 8:28

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.


Those words have been a source of great comfort so many times in the last couple of years. Here I see God speaking of His sovereignty, grace, mercy and justice.

There are so many, but this verse I chose for me being brought up in decisional evangelism wondering why no matter what I did for years, nothing ever changed. Full of sin, rebellion, hatred of people being over me, self-sufficiency, and a slew of other things. It was only our gracious Lord God Almighty that chose to do it. Oh, the sweet effectual blow of grace! Tis to sweet to describe!

Ezekiel 16 is such a great passage! The first time I really heard it discussed was at the first infant baptism I witnessed. My pastor made a point that when an infant is baptized it shows us what salvation looks like when it actually takes place: a helpless child who can do nothing on its own, with nothing to offer anyone, being washed and adopted by a merciful God.

In all seriousness, I couldn't pick a favorite. Probably not a healthy thing to have a favorite, I'm guessing. I am partial to the story of the fish barbeque though-- always puts a smile on my face, besides making me hungry.
