Puritan Board Freshman
Thomas Brooks, in his "Precious Remedies against Satan's Devices" ends his second remedy on the fifth device as such:

"I shall conclude this second remedy with a worthy saying of a
precious holy man: 'Repentance,' saith he, 'strips us stark naked of
all the garments of the old Adam, and leaves not so much as a shirt
behind.' "

I thought this quote was great but was unable to find who he is quoting. Does anyone have an idea?

Source of Quote:

"But as he whose face is turned directly to the East cannot see the West, so he who indeed looks directly to God, cannot look to his sins, but he must needs have them behind his back. Repentance if it be true, is general: It strips us stark naked of all the garments of old Adam, and leaves not so much as the shirt behind. In this rotten building it leaves not a stone upon a stone." - Daniel Dyke (d.1614) Two Treatises, the one of Repentance, the other of Christ's Temptations.

Robert Bolton also quotes the same:

"As obedience is universal and Catholic, if sincere; so repentance, if true, is also general. It strips us stark naked, as a worthy Divine says well, of all the garments of the old Adam, and leaves not so much as the shirt behind: in this rotten building, it leaves not a stone upon a stone." - Robert Bolton (1572-1631) A Comfortable Walking with God.

Thomas Brooks also requotes this in The Crown and Glory of Christianity.
