Fossil Record Apologetics

I am taking up the request of this man from 17 years ago:

Are there any good apologetic resources that deal with the claims people have about the fossil record, or refutations of the arguments of those who tout the fossil record as an apologetic against Christ? How would you engage / have engaged someone who looks at the fossil record as a Christian? Does the fossil record accord with any one view of Genesis more than another?

For whatever reason, this is often a touchy subject, and while the assumptions of an evolutionary biologist are obviously wrong - we might as well deal with the data we have before us.

Any resources or thoughts?

I'm not YEC, but I always thought that the fossil record was a problem for many evolutionists, thus prompting the creation of things like Punctuated Equilibrium. In other words, if I were them I'm not so sure I would pull on that thread.

I always loved reading Malcolm Bowden, a British guy who I guess is in heaven now. His books tend to be available at second hand places. Here is one.

One of my most favorite books ever is his True Science Agrees with the Bible, which is worth the current high price on Amazon in my opinion. The appendix on Barry Setterfield ( and other men) and the slowing down of the speed of light is a masterpiece. Hint- the fall was truly a real fall, creation was cursed, and the speed of light used to be enormously higher, like 10 to the tenth power higher. And yes all the constants with c in physics, and biology, all work fine. One main point is that light that appears to be billions of light years away is much closer, like thousands of years.

Walt Brown's book In The Beginning on the Hydroplate theory and the flood is a treasure. It is not agreed on by all creationists, but he sure makes a good case, and the photos in the book are just amazing.

I see it is up to 80 bucks now. Honestly it is worth the price. If you can eat peanut butter and beans for a month to afford it, you wont regret it.

Disclaimer: I haven’t read it, yet.

I am thinking that Henry Morris’ monumental work on creation, The Genesis Flood, may have a treatment of the fossil record. It has gone through revision over the years, so I’m thinking the last one before his death may be appropriate for you. Just a guess.

If you are prepared to go into a deep dive into the fossil record, there are books available. Especially by Michael Oard as suggested above.

The two most critically helpful would be: Biblical Geology 101 and the newest Frozen Paradox: Ice Cores vs. Deep Time
